In this week’s episode of the SIMPLE brand With Matt Lyles podcast I talk with Mike Kim about his new book: You Are the Brand!
You’ve likely heard the saying, “It’s not what you know, it’s who you know.” I don’t think that saying is necessarily true anymore. In fact, it goes a bit further than that.
In 2021 I think “It’s not what you know. And it’s NOT who you know. It’s who knows you.”
When it comes to your business and your career, you’re going to have a reputation. People are going to have pre-conceived notions about you before you even walk into the room. People are going to talk about you when you’re not in the room.
So it only makes sense to intentionally influence what people say about you when you’re not in the room.
And that’s your personal brand. Whether you like it or not, you have a brand that others are going to define and think of when they see or hear your name. And it’s up to you to influence how they define your brand.
But once you’re bought into the concept of your personal brand, how do you leverage it to achieve your goals?
How are some people able to use their personal brand to create a stellar career while others either struggle in their career or simply gradually move forward, at best?
Or how are some others able to create six- or seven-figure businesses based around their personal brand while others strive to make a consistent income?
The ones who are really succeeding in developing, growing and managing their personal brand are following some intentional steps to do it.
And that’s why I’m happy to talk with Mike Kim this week.
Mike’s one of the top marketing and personal brand teachers in the world. He’s the host of the top-ranked Brand You podcast. He’s been featured in Inc. Magazine, Entrepreneur and HuffPost. And he’s the author of his new book that releases today: You Are the Brand.
Mike and I talk about his personal brand lessons and we walk through his 8-step blueprint that he’s used to help build the brands for some of the most influential thought leaders today.
What’s great here is that these lessons work for anyone who’s trying to build a business around their own personal brand, but they’re also valuable for anyone who’s trying to leverage their personal brand to succeed in their career.
