Happy Thanksgiving! Can I ask you a favor?

Happy Thanksgiving!

I love this time of year – it encourages us to pause and reflect on all we’re grateful for (also, I love dressing, lots of dressing).

But what if we intentionally focused on gratitude every day? This video I’ve shared before shows a simple way to build a gratitude habit by changing the words you tell yourself and others.

I don’t take it for granted that you allow me into your Inbox each week. You don’t have to read my emails, but you do. And for that, I’m grateful.

I’m grateful for the feedback and replies you send me. I’m grateful for you sharing my content with others. I’m grateful for you telling me how you applied my lessons into your professional and personal lives for big wins. I’m grateful for you. Thank you.

This week, I’d like to ask you a special favor:

Between now and Monday, take a few minutes and send a “Thank You” note to at least five different people. Go for more than five if you like, but start with at least five.

The most valuable “Thank You” notes are handwritten. They stand out among the vast volume of emails we receive. If you’re simply unable to handwrite a note this time, that’s okay. An email can still work.

If you currently lead a team, then I highly encourage you to include them in those you thank.

If you have any vendors, or agencies, that work with you, then I highly encourage you to include them – they do so much more for you than you realize.

Here’s a rule: DO NOT send a “Thank You” note to a group of people as a whole. Send one to each individual. They’ll feel so much more valued that way.

Feeling stuck on what you should write? Here’s a template I follow:

  1. Tell them how thankful, or grateful, you are for them.
  2. Tell them how they add value to your life, or how they help you accomplish your goals. Be specific.
  3. Tell them how grateful, or impressed, you are with something specific they’ve accomplished recently.
  4. Tell them that you’re looking forward to what they’re going to do in the near future.

If you’re thinking, “I don’t have time for this,” take a moment and pull out your phone. Go into “Settings,” then scroll down and select “Screen Time.” Take a look at how much time you’ve already spent on Entertainment, Social Networking, and whatever browser you use. Then realize how much time you really do have to thank others. Consider “Thank You” notes the hip, new social network.

No matter what, you’ve always got time to tell someone “Thank you.”

I hope you have a fun, safe, relaxing Thanksgiving holiday. And I hope you remember to let others know how much they mean to you.
